The Golden Scrub Brush Awards are an “awards” show celebrating the contribution of the new route developers who make Squamish such a world class destination. The Squamish Access Society and 2016 Golden Scrub Brush Awards would like to congratulate all the category winners and nominees and Lifetime inductees, the late Will Dorling and Perry Beckham, for their contributions to Squamish’s climbing community. In 2015, Caroline Ciavaldini set herself the ambitious project of free climbing the Voie Petit, a 450m granite route graded 8b on the Grand Capucin on Mont Blanc du Tacul, Chamonix. Established by Arnaud Petit in 1997, and first free-climbed by Alex Huber in 2005, the route is protected by a mixture of trad gear, bolts and pegs.
The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival starts their Fall Series tonight at The Rio Theatre, kicking down the doors with a special talk from Jon Walsh, a Calgary based alpinist, who has sought adventure in high and wild places for over two decades, followed by the film Citadel, directed by Alastair Lee.
The first mountain film shot in 4k, Citadel features hardcore UK alpinists Matt Helliker and Jon Bracey as they attempt the stunning NW ridge of the remote peak ‘The Citadel’ deep in the Neacola range, Alaska. The world’s first mountain film shot entirely in 4k, a stunning visual treat reveals alpine climbing like never before.
