Sport Climbing BC – Final Results for 2018 November Sessions – Climb Base 5 – Coquitlam, BC

The 2018 November Sessions hosted by Climb Base 5 in Coquitlam, BC took place this weekend.

With the route setting team, led by Simon Parton, nailing the differentiation between climbers, spectators were able to see the strength of each climber in the finals. On the women’s side, Mika Hosoi beat out the field taking first while Ethan Hoffman took first in the Men’s Open category. Great to see Maria Celkova back in the mix as well as Matthew Wellington, both of who have struggled with injury over the past few years!

Gear Review – Metolius Access Fund Chalk Bag

The folks at Metolius have shown their commitment to the Access Fund by using their ‘classic’ competition shaped chalk bag and adding three unique prints of your favourite climbing areas including Smith Rock, the Tetons, Yosemite, and now, Indian Creek.

A portion of the proceeds goes to the Access Fund to help protect American climbing areas. These chalk bags can be purchased at the Metolius website.

Video – Rannveig Aamodt | The Art Of Living

During a climbing trip to Turkey, on a routine day, professional climber Rannveig Aamodt made a small mistake that almost cost her her life. A quick lapse of judgment resulted in a fifty foot fall. Straight down. Emergency crews evacuated Rannveig by helicopter with fractures to her back, pelvis, both ankles, and countless other injuries; both physically and emotionally. According to the doctors, she would never properly walk again, and her future surely was not going to involve climbing. Armed with hope, determination, and a beautiful perspective on life, Rannveig redirected the trajectory of her story. She proved that her reaction to her situation dictated the course of her future.

Recent News – Dan Beland sends ’50 Words for Pump (5.14b); Sam Tucker sends Zookeeper (5.14a) in RRG

We are pleased to announce that Victoria-based Dan Beland has made a quick ascent of ’50 Words for Pump’ in the Red River Gorge. A number of Canadians from Western Canada are pulling down on big jugs this year, including Calgary-based Sam Tucker, who made an ascent of the short and powerful Zookeeper (5.14a). Congratulations guys! Now time to try something harder!
