The Apocalypse Cave at Echo Canyon + Topo

Evan Hau, a prolific climber in the Bow Valley released a topo of The Apocalypse Cave today on his blog.

The Apocalypse Cave

The Apocalypse Cave is located in the Middle Grotto of Grotto Mountain, the same canyon as The Playground and Silent Auction multi-pitch. It is host to a number of routes ranging from 5.11c to 5.14a. The longest route is 25 meters and the crag requires a 60 metre rope.

2015 Tour De Frank Bouldering Festival Q+A

This coming Saturday, the Tour De Frank Bouldering Festival will take place at Frank Slide near the municipality of Corwsnest. With a ton of great energy and a very enthusiastic community surrounding the bouldering area, this event is surely not to be missed. Before you pack up the car and pick up all you friends, we thought it might be best to check in with Trent Hoover about the festival. Bow Valley Update ‘Zak McGurk sends First Flight (5.14c)’

We are pleased to announce that Zac McGurk made the second ascent of First Flight (5.14c) this afternoon. Zak has been a staple in the bow valley community for 15+ years and recently took some time off climbing while he completed his education and started his career. Zak has always loved COLD temps though and he got his wish this week.

Squamish Access Society: 2015 Golden Scrub Brush Awards Nomination Period

Here is note from Chris Small of the Squamish Access Society regarding the 2015 Golden Scrub Brush Awards.

The time has come again for nominations for the 2015 SAS Golden Scrub Brush Awards aka ‘The Scrubbies’ to show your appreciation for those hard working scrubbers putting up your new favourite route. This year’s awards will cover routes established in the 2010-2015 period. The longer time interval allows appreciation to build for routes, similar to fine wine. So, go through that well thumbed 2012 version of Squamish Select and look through the New Route section, the free topo section at Quickdraw Publications, and Squamish Climbing Source to pick out some favourites for nomination.

Recent News ‘Paul Nadler completes ‘Shelter (v13)”

While the rain washed away most of the travelling climbers, there were a few that stuck it for this weeks sunny and cold temperatures. With the drop in temperature, there has been a number of notable ascents in the boulders.

We are pleased to announce that Paul Nadler, a travelling climber from the United States, has completed Shelter (v13). Paul has been coming back to Squamish on a regular basis for a couple years now, travelling with his dog Karma. Originally called Sharma’s Cave (v11) with a french-start from the bottom, The Shelter was first climbed by Tim Clifford and starts established on the beginning holds. We are glad to see Paul is back in top form!
