Book Review: Yosemite in the Fifties by Patagonia Publishing
The pilgrimage to Yosemite for any climber is a momentous occasion. Drawn to the valley by it’s history and beauty, Yosemite has become a place of young men and women transforming into giants, seeking adventure and unafraid of the unknown. Over the years, the stories told on the valley floor have grown into tall tales themselves that continue to inspire a whole new generation of climbers. Perhaps each of us long for adventure but are looking for a catalyst that will light our longing on fire. Yosemite in the Fifties is just that, a physical catalyst for lighting dreams on fire.

Local News ‘Simon Parton send Terremer (v15)’
Very pleased to announce that Simon Parton has sent Terremer (v15) in Hueco Tanks, TX. According to Tiffany Melius, Simon spent less than an hour on the boulder during the first day of a two week trip. Simon had previously sent Terre de Sienne (v14) on the same boulder a number of years ago on his second try. More to come as soon as it is available.

Video: Alex Honnold in Angola
Alex travels to Angola with Staci Bare to look for new rock and bring focus to the number of landmines left by civil war as well as Honnold’s solar initiative. Very entertaining and inspiring!
Alex Honnold is the most accomplished free climber in the world. Angola is a southwest African country that recently emerged from 27 years of bloody civil war. What brings together these strange bedfellows you ask? Some of the most epic unclimbed rocks in the world, and a community needing help to diffuse the hidden land mines leftover from the conflict. (Plus a shadowy local hotel magnate, but we’ll get into that later). This is Alex Honnold in Angola, for one of the most unique adventures of his storied climbing career this far.

New Bouldering Gym in Kelowna | Interview with Co-owner Christiaan de Vries
A few weeks ago, it was announced that Kelowna will be getting a brand new climbing facility under the ownership of Chris and Nancy de Vries. Gneiss Climbing is slated to open sometime in March 2016 and the new facility will be focused on bouldering with the goal of creating a community focal point for the Okanagan. We thought it would be best to go right to the source and talk to co-owner Chris de Vries, as he dives into some of his early memories at Vic’s Vertical Walls in Saskatoon and how that experience brought him to his next endeavour. Here is what he had to say.
