Local News ‘Hans Montenegro sends Something Wicked This Way Comes (v12)’

We are very pleased to announce that Hans Christian Montenegro has sent Something Wicked This Way Comes (v12) in Gibbs Cave, Squamish, BC. Something Wicked was first opened by Jordan Wright in 2007 after a group of climbers removed the stump that was impeding a ton of roof climbing on the north side of Gibbs Cave.

Sounds like Hans is pretty close on Black Magic as well! Beauty!

Video ‘Inbal Katznelson and the Red River Gorge’

Nice little feature on the red and climber Inbal Katznelson

Climbers travel from all over the world come to climb in the Red and gain mileage on the sandstone steeps. Inbal Katznelson is a top sport climber from Israel and at 24 years old, the Red was in her sights as a potential location to push her limits into new grades. After a spending a little time learning the style and battling out bad weather, an injury forced Katznelson to drastically change her plans and take a step back. Allowing her to look at goals in a different light and focus on simply appreciating her time spent in the Red. A valuable insight.

Canadian National Difficulty (Lead) FINAL Results

The results are in from the 2017 Canadian Diffuclty Nationals! Two North Vancouver locals, Alannah Yip and Sean McColl took first place. For Sean McColl this was his 11th time on top of the podium!

On the Junior side of things, Squamish local Tosh Sherkat took first place for Men and Eva Thompson for the Women.

Access Update: Chek Canyon Recreation Site Expansion

Below is an update on the Chek Canyon Recreation Site Campground Expansion for those who will be using the area.

Construction on the Chek Canyon Recreation Site starts today and will last approximately three weeks. The goal for construction is to add camping to the current construction totally 30 recreation sites. No changes to the fee structure (free) are scheduled.

Camping in the upper loop will be allowed during construction but campers may need to be moved on short notice. Some construction activities will also require the public to stay out of the area for short periods of time. Construction on vehicle access sites will be first priority, starting at the south end and moving north, followed by camp sites around the lower parking lot.
