We are pleased to announce that local developer Chris Small has added a number of climbs to the Lakeside in the Woods to the right of the Reacharound Area.

The majority of the new routes are moderates from 5.5 to 5.9) and have somewhat of an alpine feel. Several of the climbs in the area are greater than 30m long and require a 70 rope. According to Chris Small, the names are in reference to Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam war epic “Full Metal Jacket“ (1987).

Madaleine Sorkin’s quest to climb The Honeymoon Is Over (5.13c) on Long’s Peak, CO.

We are pleased to announce that Stu Smith made the first ascent of ‘In the Eyes of a Frog’ (5.12) in the Altamont area, Murrin Park, Squamish, BC.

The line, originally the hard work and vision of Chris Small, climbs a right leaning splitter tips-finger crack up a steep face. According to Stu, the line is pretty bouldering and takes some finicking gear. Go get it!

Fire in The Hole (5.13+) Featuring Stu Smith, Raven’s Castle, Skaha, BC

We are pleased to announce that Will Stanhope and Mike Doyle have completed their mission on El Corazon (31 Pitches; 13b) on El Capitan, Yosemite. The pair teamed up for the route, with Will freeing every pitch. Will is no strange to big walling but El Corazon is the real deal! Congratulations Will (and Mike!).

Update: According to Peter Michaux, who had done some investigating into the history of this problem, the line in question had first been completed by Tim Doyle and named it V.

We are pleased to announce that Miles Adamson has made the first known ascent of Accelerator (v10) on the Hydra Boulder, North Walls, Squamish. Adam had asked around last week regarding the line and whether it had seen an ascent. Although no one came forward, the line was cleaned last year and was heavily chalked. Miles completed the line this weekend with a send and, because of its difficulty and its height, Miles felt his ascent was the first of the line. Congratulations Miles!

Mayflower Productions will be filming in Chek Canyon at the ‘Shoot to Kill’ wall on Friday, May 26th, 2017 from 7am to 8pm. Preparations for the shoot will commence Thursday May 25th and take down will take place on Saturday, May 27th, 2017.

The walls before and after ‘Shoot to Kill’ will NOT be closed during that time but please expect a runner to assist with both parking and walking to and from the crag.

There may also be a flagger directing traffic at the bottom of the hill for parking in the middle lot. The production company ensured a quick take down of materials on Saturday morning to beat the crowds. They have also made a donation to The Climbers Access Society of BC for the inconvenience.

We are very very excited to announce that Hans Christian Montenegro has sent Black Magic (v13) in Gibbs Cave, Squamish, BC. This amazing line starts way down in the cave as for ‘Something Wicked’ and ends on Black Hole (v11). If you have ever seen Hans climb on plastic, you know he is a crusher! This was Hans first of the grade!
