Tosh and Tula Sherkat – West Kootenay Bouldering + Petition

Tosh and Tula Sherkat have made their film about West Kootenay Bouldering public. The brother sister combo have been trying to bring more attention to the BLM movement in the climbing community.

They have also turned their focus to an ongoing petition online calling for signs that promote Black Lives being placed back into BC parks.

On the weekend of July 24th, Garibaldi Provincial Park Rangers took the courageous step of installing racial justice and inclusivity signs at all trailheads in the park. These welcoming signs acknowledge that the park is unceded Indigenous land, assert that diversity and inclusion make us stronger, demands that parks must be accepting and safe spaces for everyone, and stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

By the beginning of the next week, all these signs had been taken down and this a step backwards in our collective journey towards inclusivity and justice. We believe it is important for our parks to show solidarity with the global awakening surrounding Black Lives Matter, social justice, equity and inclusion.

Please see the petition here.
