Future Climbing in Parts of Murrin Park may be Under Threat| Recent News

According the Squamish Access Society today, future climbing in parts of Murrin Provincial Park may be under threat due to an agreement between Woodfibre LNG and the Squamish Nation that was reached in March 2019.

The Squamish Access Society has reported that:

The BC provincial government is in the process of transferring several crown land parcels to Squamish Nation as part of the Squamish Nation’s agreement with Woodfibre LNG. An agreement between the parties was reached in March 2019.

We are pleased to announce that Elan Jonas McCrae makes FA of The Remnant (5.14c) in Skaka Provincial Park. The line, first bolted and visioned by Sonnie Trotter sits on The Belfry sharing the the start with The Replicant (5.13d).

Update: After sending The Missing Link (5.14d)a few days later, Elan decided to downgrade The Remnant to 5.14c, first calling it 5.14d

Climber Dies Falling on Stawamus Chief | Recent News

We are sad to report that a male climber died after falling while climbing in Squamish, BC on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019. According to unidentified sources, the climbers were on Arrowroot (5.10b) along the base of the Grand Wall in which their was a miscommunication between the belayer and lead climber at the anchor of the climb which resulted in the lead climber falling 30 metres to the ground. The climber was identified as a male in his thirties but no other information was given.

The district staffalso released a report to council regarding the issue at hand and the reasoning behind the amendment.
