For those of you who have not heard, Climb Base 5 in Coquitlam, BC has started an Open Performance Team for those individuals who are training for indoor or outdoor climbing goals. To be on the team, participants need to apply before August 2nd, 2015 and the selection process will involve a selection camp as well as an interview. The team will be headed by two fantastic coaches, Andrew Wilson and Matt Johnson. This is a very unique concept in the Lower Mainland and I am sure it will pay off for those individuals who want to realize their climbing goals in a team setting.

Destination Magic Wood
The sequel to Destination Fontainebleau. Again we’re in the search for some of the best bouldering on the planet; this time in Swiss destination Magic Wood. Among climbing what are undoubtably some of the best boulders in the world we discovered that Joe believes he’s too weak to ever climb 8A, Nathan likes to flash all our projects and still finds time to moan about something, Will doesn’t care how bad the moves are because it’s “all about the line”, James would be lost without a dishwasher and that I shouldn’t think too much as it can be dangerous.
Local News ‘Dan Beland sends Revival (5.14b)’
A little bit of local news to keep you going. Dan Beland recently made an ascent of Revival (5.14b) on the Big Show in Chek Canyon. Dan has steadily making headway on hard sends over the past few years, with ascents of Driven (5.14a), Dinosaur Highway (5.14a) and Mike Doyle’s Adato (5.14b) at Horne Lake last year. Dan also recently made a trip to the rockies where he climbed Fully Jingus (5.13d) and Army Ants (5.13c). Great work Dan!

Matilda Söderlund Training at Cafe Kraft
For those of you wondering why we have not been not updating as much as usual, it is because we are currently doing a ‘Spotcheck’ on one of the most famous sport climbing areas in the world, The Frankenjura. For those who have never heard of the Frankenjura, then give your head a shake because it is the birthplace of modern sport climbing. It also happens to be the home of Cafe Kraft and we have an interview coming up with one of managers at the gym, Pino Stein, to fill us in on what is going on with them and their new location. In the meantime, here is a video featuring Matilda Soderlund training at the Nurenburg facility.
Be sure to check back tomorrow for our interview with Pino Stein!
