‘The Bluffs’ Web-series Pitch by Dave Mai

Dave Mai is an independent music and film producer from the Okanagan. He started to get into film making about the same time he discovered rock climbing. He became passionate about both disciplines very quickly.

Dave has pitched a web series called “The Bluffs” to Telus Story Hive. Story Hive is STORYHIVE is a community-powered funding program for emerging content creators in BC and Alberta. This series will feature the Skaha Bluffs in Penticton, one of Canada’s best sport climbing destinations. The web series will feature some well known locals and classic climbs, while exploring what it takes for a community to come together to keep the Bluffs sustainable for future use.

To help Dave out, please visit the Storyhive website and vote for his series.

New Bouldering Guidebook for New Mexico by Owen Summerscales

New Mexico Bouldering by Owen Summerscales is set to release later this week and here at Squamish Climbing Magazine we couldn’t be more excited. The new guidebook, featuring the Land of Enchantment, covers the recently discovered huge quartzite and sandstone areas of the Ortega Mountains and Roy in northern New Mexico. The author, Owen Summerscales, has put a lot of time into this book, including an emphasis on beautiful pictures and layout. The book itself features over 1000 problems, 80% of which were previously undocumented. Squamish Climbing Magazine had a chance to catch up with Owen to chat about the experience of finding such a new area, his process writing the guidebook and how the local community hopes to manage impact to such a new area. Here is what he said.

Local News ‘Sarah Hart sends White Lion (v10) at Cat Lake Boulders

We are very psyched to announce that Sarah Hart sent White Lion (v10) yesterday at the Cat Lake Boulders just north of Squamish. The Cat Lake Boulders seem to be catching fire over the past two weeks, with White Lion (v10) garnishing attention from a number of climbers. Sarah Hart has been climbing strong for a number of years now and this was her first v10. We are sure that this will not be the last time we here from her this season. Congratulations Sarah!
