We are pleased to announce that Hans Christian Montenegro has been hard at work again but this time at Gibb’s Cave. Yesterday, Hans made the first ascent of a link up names ‘La Abuela” (v11). The link up starts as for Black Magic and after the first crux traverses left all the way to DJ Pump Daddy, ending on the problem Gibb’s Cave. Sounds pumpy!

Here is a short video of the top v11’s (as listed by the newest edition of the Squamish Bouldering guidebook. Most of the problems have been seen before but Perfect Cave (v11), a great summer problem, makes an appearance at the end.

We are pleased to announce a few first ascents that have taken place over the last few days.

Kelowna-based climber Patrick Waddington made the first ascent of Grizzly Bear (5.14a) at Bear Cave yesterday near Kelowna, BC. Grizzly Bear was first bolted by Adam Tutte in November 2014 and then worked by Pat for approximately a year and half. The route itself involves a pretty bouldering crux, weighing in at approximately v10. The Bear Lake area will be covered in the new Kelowna Climbing Guidebook due out in June.

In other news, Squamish-local Peter Winter made the first ascent of ‘A Contradiction in Terms’ on Pet Wall in Murrin Park. The 35 meter line (16 bolts) climbs the smooth granite to the right of No Name Road and most likely falls in the 5.13 range (although technically Peter left the project ungraded). Peter began working the route last fall and sent yesterday afternoon.

In the forests of Fontainebleau, the boulders hold some of the most astounding shapes in the world, inspiration to artists and climbers alike. World Cup route setter Jacky Godoffe has been climbing there for decades, and his routes are drawn from the motion of Font. For Jacky, this expression, and sharing it with others, is his happiness.

We are pleased to announce that Quest graduate Jesse Warren was back in town this weekend and made an ascent of The Down System (5.14a) in Chek Canyon. Jesse had been trying the rig on off during his time here in Squamish. Jesse has been suffering from aa finger injury for almost a year but his finger is starting to slowly get better. Jesse also made a quick ascent of Queen Bee (5.13c) over the weekend as well. Unfortunately, no pictures of either send.

The 2016 IFSC Bouldering World Cup comes to an end today, with the final round taking place at 1115am pacific time. Sean McColl is back in the finals after not making the final round in the last three events.

With three Canadians in the semi-finals, Alannah Yip, Sean McColl, and Andre Defelice, The IFSC Bouldering World Cup Innsbruck semi-finals is worth a watch. The event started at 5 am this morning and results can be found here.
