Local News ‘Yuki Kuroda sends The Great Arch (5.12d)’

We are pleased to announce that Yuki Kuroda sent The Great Arch (5.12d) yesterday in Squamish, BC. The Great Arch is a mixed line situated in South Gully across from Mercy Street. Although capable of much harder climbing, Yuki has struggled with a shoulder injury for the last last year and a half only to recently find out that she has a labrum tear that may require surgery. The send comes one day before meeting with the surgeon so it is especially significant as she prepares for possible surgery and rehabilitation. Congratulations Yuki!

The send came as a surprise for Stacey as she had been trying the route on and off for the past few years. Stacey has been growing stronger and stronger over the past two years and we are sure this won’t be the last we hear about her this summer!

Gear Review: Arc’teryx Atom SL Hoody

atomsl

The Atom line of jackets by Arc’teryx have an established reputation as warm, light and stylish jackets that are best used as cold weather mid-layers and shoulder season outer-layers. The Atom Super light (SL) is similar in fit and appearance to the Atom LT and AR, but it has much lighter insulation that makes it best suited for high output activities or milder days. Squamish Climbing Magazine has been putting the Atom SL through its paces on snow, rock, and muddy trails over the past 10 weeks, and we’ve found it to be a versatile addition to an admittedly already packed gear closet.
