Recent News ‘Alex Megos sends ‘The Prow Project’ (5.14b) at Raven Crag in Banff

We are very psyched to announce that German climber Alex Megos is currently in Canmore, BC and yesterday made the first ascent of ‘The Prow Project’ (5.14b) on his second attempt at Raven Crag in Banff, AB. The route, projected to be in the 5.14+ range was graded 5.14b according to Sonnie Trotter. According to Instagram, ten bolts were added to the project yesterday as well, perhaps creating a very difficult route and future project. Alex is in Canmore for three weeks followed by a two week stint in Squamish, BC.

UPDATE: For those looking for a little more background. the original line was 8 bolts and Sonnie Trotter recently added 10 more bolt to the project. According to John Blackwell (photographer), Alex thought that both the bottom section and the top section may be 9a (or 5.14d) with no rest in between and indicated ‘It’s probably harder than 9a+’. The grading on the bottom section see, somewhat conflicting but only time will tell!

Development News ‘Eric Hughs makes First Ascent of ‘Minotaur’ (5.13b/c) in Rogues Gallery

We are pleased to announce that Eric Hughes has made the first ascent of Minotaur (5.13b/c), 25 meters, 12 bolts, in Rogues Gallery about a week ago. The route itself was first bolted by Robyn Richard early this summer but Robyn’s job took him away from the rig and he opened the project up.

Interview with 2016 Squamish Rampage Co-organizer Jeff Yoo

With the 2016 Squamish Rampage just around the corner, we thought it would be a great idea to check in with one of the co-organizers of the festival, Jeff Yoo, to talk about how Rampage has evolved going into it’s third year and how the Squamish Rampage committee has tried to address some of the recent issues brought up in a survey conducted by the Squamish Access Society. As with any event, it takes a lot of time and energy to build momentum. This year, as Squamish Rampage teams up with Ground Up Climbing Centre, that momentum has come together in what looks like a fantastic event that not only brings climbers together but does it in a way that promotes stewardship of the forest and minimizes impact on our most precious resources.
