We are pleased to announce that Zac McGurk made the second ascent of First Flight (5.14c) this afternoon. Zak has been a staple in the bow valley community for 15+ years and recently took some time off climbing while he completed his education and started his career. Zak has always loved COLD temps though and he got his wish this week.

First flight, located on the Acephale upper wall, was originally bolted by Lev Pinter about 4 years ago and first ascended by Josh Muller in August of last year. The route is notorious for holds breaking and has been re-routed at least once. The route starts off Prime Time, followed by a double Gaston iron cross into a gnarly traverse and then into an ok rest. Big moves on small holds lead to a birds nest crux, which is a big move to a sloping edge, then hand heel match up to some small edges, then a gnarly technical section to the 5.11 slab at the chains. Both Josh and Zak reported that they both put up a massive fight for the send.
Congratulations Zak and special thanks to Josh Muller for keeping us posted!
