With a fantastic crowd turn-out, The Hive North Shore was buzzing with excitement last night, as it played host to the 2016 Canadian Open Bouldering Championships. With the parking lot completely full and the inside of the venue jammed with people, the competition turned into an absolute showdown between the top competitors in Canada plus a few Americans thrown in the mix.

The night started with a bang, as both men and women competitors struggled to complete problem one until Elan Jonas McRae stole the show by flashing Men’s #1 as the crowd went wild. Meanwhile, Women’s #1 continued to spit off competitors until Alannah Yip pulled off the first and only ascent.

The action continued, as competitors fell low and high from the walls at The Hive North Shore. However, it was Alex Fritz and Alannah Yip that stole the show, both with powerful performances that led them to the top of the podium.

The night was one for the books in Canadian climbing, with one of the largest turn outs at an event hosted by British Columbia. Special thanks to Sport Climbing BC, The Hive North Shore, and the CEC. It should also be mentioned that this event was streamed live online and the production of the stream was of top quality for industry standards. These events would also not be possible without all the volunteers that turn out just for the thrill of the event. Congratulations to our Canadian winners Alannah Yip and Sean McColl.
