2016 IFSC World Cup Championships: Canadian Athlete Update

A number of Canadian Athletes made the trek to Paris this week for the 2016 IFSC World Cup Climbing and Para-climbing Championships. These trips would not be possible without the support of the families and friends of these athletes and Squamish Climbing Magazine thought it best to give you an update on what is going on in Paris.

Men and Women Para-climbing Qualifications

Before getting into the results of our Canadian climbing results, we wanted to draw special attention to Canadian Para-climber Kate Sawford from Ontario, who has placed second in Women’s AL qualifiers, (making it into the next round!) and Roy Lemke, who placed sixth in qualifiers.

Women’s Lead Qualifications

A number of Canadian female athletes participated in the qualifications round. Unfortunately, none of our athletes made semi-finals. Here is the standing for our Canadian athletes:

Women’s Bouldering Qualifications

We are pleased to announce that Alannah Yip has made it to the semi-final round. Be sure to check that out tomorrow at 12pm pacific time. Both Stacey Weldon and Allison Vest, both from Canmore, both competed for a spot and tried their hardest despite not feeling at their best.

Men’s Lead Qualifications

A number of athletes from BC, including Tosh Sherkat, Kyle Murdoch, Matthew Wellington Elan Jonas-McCrae and Sean McColl all competed for a spot in semi-finals, along with Nathan Smith.

Men’s Bouldering Qualifications

Not all of the athletes competing in lead competed for the bouldering qualifies. North Van local Sean McColl also qualified for semi-finals in the bouldering category.
