Over the next few weeks, Squamish Climbing Magazine will be giving regular updates regarding the condition of the Grand Wall boulders at the Stawamus Chief. For those who have not heard, there is a film crew currently setting up for a shoot in and around the Grand Wall boulders that will take place the last week of June. Most of the action is in and around the Easy Chair area and the Cacodemon boulder.
Over the past few days, a small crew of people had begun setting up for the shoot, including roping off a number of trails and placing pylons in specific filming areas. They have also started to build a platform near Rat Rock and placing ‘fake’ boulders in and around the area. The bushes following the Apron Connector trail have been trimmed down to allow for trucks in that area and the start of that trail has been roped off, even though there is still public access. Lastly, the film crew, with permission from the Parks Liaison, cut down a dead tree.
For those who love the forest as we do, it does feel upsetting to see folks changing the natural state of the forest. For those visiting this weekend, it may be best to avoid the area. Squamish Climbing Magazine will continue to provide updates over the next few weeks.
