Recent News ‘Marcel Aarden sends Dinosaur Highway (5.14a) and more’

We are pleased to announce that island-based climber Marcel Aarden sent Dinosaur Highway (5.14a) at Horne lake this weekend, marking his first of the grade.

Clipped the chains of my first 5.14 this weekend. Brought out all my try hard on this one. So many awesome adventures climbing this year. To catch us up from last week, we thought we would also mention a few local sends. Jamie Finlayson made a rare repeat of Pool Stand Start (v10), first completed by Tim Doyle and later repeated by Jamie Chong. Luke Zimmerman made an ascent of Magic Moments (v11). Paul Nadler, a visiting ‘local’ made a rare (and smooth!) ascent of The Proposal (v12). Mat Pouliot made an ascent of Drowning Grip (v11) in the Grand Wall Boulders.

Yesterday was one of those magical days in the forest. It was cool, dry, and windy. These are the days us Squamish folks dream of. Long gone are the sweaty, greasy, busy days of the summer. Finally the grades actually make sense and things suddenly feel doable! Time to get to work and get some stuff done. Here I am back working on the unrepeated low start to The Pool, called The Deep End. I made some great progress yesterday and I managed to send the stand start! Finally, both Graham McGrenere and Stu Smith made an ascent of Permanent Waves (5.13d) in the Grand Wall Boulders. Stu Smith made his ascent of the route approximaately two weeks ago, while Graham made his send only yesterday. This was Graham’s fourth of the grade as he makes the push for 5.14 this winter!

Last but certainly not least, we just got word that Vikki Weldon completed her goal in France, sending Tom et Je Ris (5.14a) on her trip with Sean McColl and Mike Doyle. Congrats Vikki!
