We are very pleased to announce that Alannah Yip sent Pulse (5.14a) in Cheakamus Canyon today! This was the first female ascent of Pulse (5.14a), the first 5.14 in Canada as well as Alannah’s first 5.14.

Belayed by Miles Adamson, Alannah made her way up the wall while the top of the route was still in the sun. After crushing the thin crimpy section, Alannah did the finger lock section with ease. She stopped at the alcove for a brief moment and then made her way up the final section of the route only to do the moves almost static. During the second part of the route, Alannah completed the moves while the route was still in the sun so she could make it to work by 4pm!

Chatting with Alannah after, she couldn’t seem to stop smiling. The day could have been a tragedy, as Alannah forgot to bring her harness in her bag. Luckily, Sean McColl’s mom was there with an extra harness and to cheer her on.
Pulse (5.14a) was first completed by Jim Sanford in 1995 and has never had a female ascent despite being tried by a number of Canada’s strongest.
Congratulations Alannah! Many more to come!
