This weekend, the Edge Climbing Centre in North Vancouver, BC, will be hosting its first Olympic Style climbing competition featuring three disciplines (Bouldering, Speed, Difficulty) and podium placement based on performance in all three categories.
On the men’s side, young guns Guy and Kinder McNamee will be vying for the top of the podium alongside vertran competitors JJ Mah, Ryder Hoy, and Michael Weldon. Notably absent is Jesse Taplin, who has placed in the top three in every bouldering competition this season.
On the women’s side, the Olympic Format has brought out Tiffany Melius and Christy Spurrell to compete. Again, notably absent is this years heavy hitters including Allison Vest, Sophie Buitendyk, and Alannah Yip.
The results of this weekend will play a large impact on the overall ranking of these athletes in the province. Open finals will consist of the top six qualifying athletes competing in Speed, Boulder and Difficulty.Open Finals
Top 6 overall Open Male & top 6 Overall Open Women will compete in an Olympic format final consisting of Speed, Boulder & Difficulty. Competitors will have one run on each speed route, three boulder problems, and one onsight route to determine their overall placement.
Open Finals will take place on Sunday, Jan. 13th @5pm.
