Below is an update on the Chek Canyon Recreation Site Campground Expansion for those who will be using the area.
Construction on the Chek Canyon Recreation Site starts today and will last approximately three weeks. The goal for construction is to add camping to the current construction totally 30 recreation sites. No changes to the fee structure (free) are scheduled.
Camping in the upper loop will be allowed during construction but campers may need to be moved on short notice. Some construction activities will also require the public to stay out of the area for short periods of time. Construction on vehicle access sites will be first priority, starting at the south end and moving north, followed by camp sites around the lower parking lot.
Access to climbing during construction will be open but climbers are asked to stay away from machinery left on the site. The Upper parking lot will be closed to parking for the duration of the construction period because of large equipment, gravel trucks, and the storage of gravel, tables etc. Climbers will be able to drop off in the upper loop but not park there until construction has moved to lower loop. At the time of writing, a lower loop plan had not been completed but is expected occur after the upper lot has been completed.
Stay tuned to SCM for more information and we will post as it becomes available.
